Athens - Greek bank unions have called for a 24-hour nationwide strike today to protest against a police raid at a striking bank which ended an occupation by employees protesting over a government decision to sell the bank. The sale of Ionian Bank is the first major test of the government's resolve to push through its privatisation agenda in the banking sector, part of its drive to join the European economic and monetary union in 2001.
