MAGDEBURG - Police yesterday said they had detained 70 people during protests by left wing militants against right wing extremism in the east German city of Magdeburg.

The march was organised in response to the killing of a 17 year old punk rocker who was beaten and stabbed to death earlier this month. An extreme right winger has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
