Violence broke out after PSNI officers moved in to arrest four masked men, believed to be INLA members,  taking part in the parade in the nationalist Bogside housing estate, an eyewitness said.

"The crowd were surrounding them and then the police moved in and kids started throwing bricks and bottles," he said.

A PNSI  spokesman confirmed there had been stone throwing close to the parade. There were no reports of arrests or injuries, he said.

The march, consisting of two bands and around 75 people, ended in Rossville Street shortly after 3.30pm.

Information is to be sent to the Parades Commission, which adjudicates on contentious marches.
