Police arrest man and recover gun

A man allegedly armed with a shotgun was arrested in a busy Belfast shopping centre yesterday.

A man allegedly armed with a shotgun was arrested in a busy Belfast shopping centre yesterday.

The 22-year-old was taken into custody at the Castle Court centre at about 2.30pm.

The suspected firearm was recovered by police at Debenhams department store. The man was taken to the police’s custody suite at Musgrave Street for questioning.

It is understood officers drew Tasers during the arrest operation but did not discharge them.

Police said the Police Ombudsman had been informed of the incident in line with normal procedures.
