A man received a gunshot wound to each ankle in what was described by the PSNI as a paramilitary-style shooting in west Belfast yesterday. The police were informed of the shooting, which occurred in the Westrock Park area of Belfast, shortly before 6.25pm. The victim, a man in his 20s, was said to be recovering in hospital last night.

Meanwhile, crime figures released for Northern Ireland show overall crime was down by 6 per cent since last April. However sectarian crime detections were up by 12.4 per cent.
