Helsinki - Mr Paavo Lipponen (57) may become the first ever Finnish head of government to take paternity leave.

A government spokesman confirmed a newspaper report yesterday that the Prime Minister was considering taking 18 days of paid paternity leave - his full entitlement under Finnish law - at the end of the summer. Mr Lipponen divorced his first wife to marry a woman of 31 in January.
