A post mortem examination is due to take place today on the body of a 13 year-old girl who drowned at Inchydoney near Clonakilty in west Cork yesterday.

Gardaí were called to the scene at 6pm shortly after two girls got into difficulties.  The RNLI lifeboat from Courtmacsherry participated in the rescue operation.

The girl's body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out.

Her identity has not been released.
