ISLAMABAD - Afghanistan's Taleban Islamic government said yesterday it would not destroy two world famous giant statues of Buddha, after an international outcry against reports that they were threatened.

"Taleban won't destroy the sculptures at Bamiyan," the government's embassy in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, said.
