Health professionals in Ireland needed to show the public that they were providing a quality health care service, the president of the Irish Society for Quality in Health Care, Mr Stiofan de Burca, said yesterday. Otherwise, they would find other agencies imposing, and enforcing, standards on them.

The society's annual conference will be opened today by the President, Mrs Robinson.

The society is pressing for the adoption of a national policy on quality in health care.
