A Gaelic footballer who punched an opposing player in the face during a match has been conditionally discharged for two years on an assault charge.

Cookstown Magistrates Court was told yesterday that Francis Anthony O'Neill (28), a milkman, of Smith Street, Moneymore, Co Derry, struck a player from Magilligan, Co Derry, in the right eye with his fist during a crucial relegation league game at Moneymore on September 8th.
