An investigation by the Health and Safety Authority began yesterday following a release of process gas at the Irish Fertiliser Industries Ltd plant at Marino Point in Cork.

The plant was shut down until tomorrow. IFI spokesman Mr John O'Grady said the leak, in one of the high-pressure lines, did not cause any risk to staff or to the environment. A quantity of nitrogen and hydrogen escaped and the pipe was shut down in the self contained area of the plant.
