An Aer Arann plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this afternoon after one of its engines went on fire.

The plane, which was carrying 33 passengers and four crew, was travelling from Farranfore Airport in Kerry to Dublin.

The pilot contacted Shannon air traffic control after spotting the fire.

The plane touched down at 3.10pm and was immediately evacuated.

The passengers, none of whom were injured, continued their journey to Dublin by coach.
