A Rwandair plane to Uganda crashed into the VIP lounge after taking off from the international airport in Rwanda's capital Kigali, killing one passenger, officials said today.

"The Rwandair flight was taking off to Kampala and it ran into technical difficulties and crashed into the VIP lounge," information minister Louise Mushikiwabo said.

A policeman at the scene said 10 people were taken to hospital.

Richard Masozera, director general of the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority, told reporters one passenger later died.

A medical source at Kigali's King Faisal Hospital said the pilot was also among the injured and was in a critical condition.
