Plan scrapped for North boards

The British government is expected to signal a climb down today on plans to reorganise the five education and library boards in the North. The Prime Minister, Mr John Major, is likely to tell the leaders of the North's political parties that the idea is being dropped. It was proposed last year to cut the number of boards from five to three, supposedly saving £2 million.
