PJ Morley, former TD, dies aged 81

The death has occurred of former Fianna Fáil Mayo TD PJ Morley.

Mr Morley, who was 81 and from Claremorris, was a TD for 20 years from 1977 until 1997.

He was elected to the Dáil at his second attempt, having first served as a senator from 1973 to 1977.

Mr Morley, a retired schoolteacher, is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Cathy and three sons: Patrick, Enda and Brian.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin last night paid tribute to Mr Morley, describing him as a wonderful colleague, a very effective parliamentarian and “a diligent worker, both in the Dáil and for the people of Mayo”.
