Pipe-bomb found in Waterford car

Two men are being questioned by gardaí after a pipe-bomb was found in a car outside Waterford city last night.

Two men are being questioned by gardaí after a pipe-bomb was found in a car outside Waterford city last night.

The men were arrested during an operation targeting dissident republicans.

Their car was stopped and searched on the N25 to Dungarvan at 11.10pm last night and the device was found.

It was later made safe by an Army bomb disposal team.

The scene was declared safe at 3.50am and the device was removed for further examination.

The men are being held at Waterford Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences against the State Act.
