Gardaí carried out a controlled explosion in Dublin city centre early this morning.

The hoax pipe-bomb was found under a car parked near the Sawn bar on Aungier Street late last night.

The bar was evacuated while those in other buildings were told to stay indoors.

The street was cordoned between Great Longford Street and Whitefriar Place.

The area, which is adjacent to a number of late night bars on Wexford Street, was moderately busy at the time.

The controlled explosion was carried out at about midnight.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
