A delegation of Irish Jews and Christians met the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs yesterday to protest at the continued detention of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, kidnapped by Hamas on June 25th, 2006, writes Patsy McGarry.
Natalie Wynn of the Progressive Jewish synagogue in Dublin, Debbie Briscoe of the Orthodox synagogue, Paul Coulter of Roslyn Park College, and Paddy Monaghan and Alan Morris of Alpha Ireland Marriage, also presented Eamon Gilmore with a petition of 1,431 Irish signatories calling on him to put pressure on Hamas to grant Sgt Shalit rights due under international law and to help secure his release.
Mr Gilmore, accompanied by Labour councillor Richard Humphreys, said he had already spoken up for Gilad’s rights and would continue to do so.
