LIMA - Left wing rebels holding 74 hostages at the Japanese ambassador's residence fired automatic weapons inside it yesterday, as Peru's government stuck to its hard line on the month old crisis. The Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement leader, Mr Nestor Cerpa Cartolini, said that warning shots were fired because police violated an agreement by placing themselves, "fewer than 100 meters" from the residence.
