Soft drinks company Pepsi-Cola is planning to create 50 jobs in Cork.

Soft drinks company Pepsi-Cola is planning to create 50 jobs in Cork.

The company is to build an R&D centre of excellence at the site of its existing Europe/Asia concentrate operations in Little Island, Co Cork.

Pepsico will employ 25 people with higher-level qualifications in food science, chemistry and engineering at the new centre.

The centre will concentrate on the development or new products including drinks that offer health benefits.

Pepsico also announced plans today to establish its worldwide concentrate headquarters in Cork where it said it would locate 25 key global roles.

The company employs 350 people at two plants in Co Cork.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin said: "Today's announcement is a huge vote of confidence in Ireland as a location for world-class research.

"It will be tremendously beneficial to University College Cork and the Moorepark Research Centre in Fermoy which will work closely with Pepsico on its research projects."
