Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, arrived in Buenos Aires early yesterday to arrange the funeral of her mother, Susan Barrantes, who died in a head-on car crash, at the weekend. The duchess then boarded a taxi flight to Trenque Lauquen, the largest city near her mother's ranch, El Pucara.

Susan Barrantes (61), the estranged wife of the duchess's father, Major Ronald Ferguson, died in a collision near her ranch on Saturday night.

Dancer Rudolf Nureyev, who was sentenced to seven years in prison in his native Soviet Union after defecting to France in 1961, has been posthumously rehabilitated, Russian authorities said yesterday.

Nureyev was rehabilitated under a law on "victims of political reprisals" after the Russian justice system deemed him not guilty of the crimes he was convicted of, deputy prosecutor general, Alexander Zviaguintsev, said.

He died in Paris of Aids in 1993 at the age of 54.
