A pensioner died after being confronted by a burglar who broke into his Co Derry home early this morning.

A pensioner died after being confronted by a burglar who broke into his Co Derry home early this morning.

The man (72) was with his wife when the intruder climbed through a rear window at the house in Glenmore Gardens, in the Mountsandel area of Coleraine at approximately 1.30am.

Police said an altercation took place and the pensioner died a short time later. The man's wife raised the alarm.

The intruder is described as tall, with a local accent. He was wearing a dark-coloured coat and light grey jogging bottoms.
