Pedestrian dies in Louth incident

A woman in her 70s has died after she was hit by a car in Drogheda, Co Louth.

A woman in her 70s has died after she was hit by a car in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The woman was seriously injured when she was struck on Scarlet Street, Drogheda at about 5.30pm.

She was taken by Ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was also taken to hospital. A Garda spokesman said the street was closed pending a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda station.

A total of nine people have been killed on the State's roads since the start of the year, according to Garda figures.
