Proposals to cut legal costs in medical negligence cases by setting up a State-run medical injuries assessment board would cause extra costs and delays for patients, according to an advocacy group.

Patient Focus said the plan could add another bureaucratic burden to an already damaged patient.

However, it said the current system placed huge impediments in the way of patients seeking justice and this needed to change.
