An alliance of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, the Progressive Democrats and Independents ensured the election of Cllr Cathal Boland (FG) as the new chairman of Fingal County Council.
Cllr Boland, a brother of a former Fine Gael Minister, Mr John Boland, yesterday secured victory over the Labour nominee, Cllr Michael O'Donovan, by 16 votes to seven.
