Asuncion - The one-time Paraguayan army chief and failed coup leader, Lino Oviedo, was arrested by police in the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguazu near the Paraguayan border yesterday, a Paraguayan minister said.

Oviedo was sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attempted coup in 1996 and is sought by Paraguayan courts for plotting the murder of Vice President Luis Maria Argana - the defence minister's father - in March 1999.
