Bordeaux - Mr Maurice Papon, the former French minister accused of wartime crimes against humanity, left hospital yesterday in advance of the resumption of his trial this week, medical officials and lawyers said.

Mr Papon (87) checked out of a hospital near Bordeaux after two weeks of treatment for a lung infection, and planned to return to court tomorrow, his lawyer confirmed."
