Papal's girl

"PAPANDREOU, my hero," CJ Haughey is reported to have said of the former Greek prime minister who died last weekend. The occasion, according to Tim Ryan's Mara, was the Athens summit of 1989. Haughey, writes Ryan, was being briefed by senior aides when much commotion was heard outside. PJ told him it was Papandreou arriving at the press centre with his young girlfriend. "Oh, what's she like tell me exactly how she looks," said Haughey. Mara investigated and reported back. "Haughey listened to every word with interest, took a deep breath and softly declared: "Papandreou, my hero!"
