Jerusalem - Palestinian police said yesterday they had temporarily closed down a private television station operating from the West Bank city of Ramallah for its criticism of the Palestinian Authority.

"We are closing the station for a couple of days and we'll ask administrators at al-Nasr TV station to comply with regulations set for private TV stations operating here," a senior police official said.

The Palestinian Independent Commission for Citizens' Rights urged the Palestinian Authority to stop meddling in the affairs of the local media.
