Phuket - A Russian father and son who drifted for six months on their yacht after hitting a rock have arrived weak but safe in Thailand, vowing yesterday to press on with their epic trip.

Mr Vladimir Medvedev (44), and son Maxim (14), were hospitalised suffering from dehydration after their ordeal, which they survived by drinking rain water and fishing with an aerial rod. They began their roundthe-world adventure in August 1995, sailing to Japan, Canada, the United States and South Africa.
