There are over 400 patients on hospital trolleys around the State, according to figures released today by the Irish Nurses’ Organisation (INO).

The figure of 425 people on trolleys in accident & emergency wards recorded today is an increase on the 378 yesterday reported by the INO.

For Monday, December 22nd, the figure was 256.

According to today's survey, Beaumount hospital had the largest number of those on trolleys, at 55, followed by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, (38) and Tallaght and St Vincent’s hospitals in Dublin, with 28 each.

Cork University Hospital has 25 people on trollies.

Of the 425 patients recorded today, 203 were in the Eastern region, and 222 were in the rest of the country, the INO found.
