OTTAWA - Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Ms Sheila Copps, under attack for refusing to honour an election pledge to quit if a Liberal government did not abolish an unpopular sales tax, has resigned, official sources said yesterday.
Sources in the office of the Prime Minister, Mr Jean Chretien, confirmed media reports that Ms Copps was resigning as deputy prime minister and minister of Canadian heritage and would also relinquish her seat in the House of Commons.
