Consumers have been warned to expect a sharp rise in orange juice prices following a 250 per cent increase in concentrate costs on world markets.

In a statement released today the Beverage Council of Ireland said a series of extreme weather conditions had severely disrupted crop yields.

"Abnormally high growing temperatures in Florida, followed by unusually frosty conditions combined to dramatically lower the orange crop", said Bernard Murphy, executive director of the BCI.
