KINSHASA - Mr Etienne Tshisekedi, the main opposition leader in the new Democratic Republic of Congo, was arrested by troops yesterday, together with his wife, witnesses said. A long-time opponent of ousted dictator Mr Mobutu Sese Seko when the country was known as Zaire, Mr Tshisekedi was left out of the government announced last month by the man who replaced Mr Mobutu, Mr Laurent Kabila. Earlier yesterday, Mr Tshisekedi told students he was in contact with Mr Kabila to "harmonise" their views on - the country's political institutions.
