An open verdict was returned at an inquest in Ballina, Co Mayo, yesterday on Mr John Declan Broderick (34), a principal officer in the Department of Justice, of Upper Kilmacud Road, Dublin, whose body was recovered by an Army helicopter from the sea at the Ceide cliffs on the north Mayo coast on March 3rd.

Medical evidence by Dr Nessa O'Donnell, a pathologist at Sligo General Hospital, showed he had died from internal injuries after a fall. The north Mayo coroner, Dr Mickey Loftus, said there was, no evidence to show how the deceased came to be in the sea.
