One lucky winner scooped a record €8.6 million Lotto jackpot last night.
The winner spent €4 on a "Quick Pick" ticket in the Statoil garage on the Castlecomber Road, Kilkenny, on Tuesday afternoon.
For his or her efforts they are now better off to the tune of €8,606,212. It is the largest prize won by a single ticket since the lottery started in 1988. As yet the winner has not been in touch with the Lotto company to cliam their prize.
In November 1996 a jackpot of €9.5 million was shared by a number of tickets.
The winning numbers of last night's draw were 11, 13, 19, 23, 41 and 44. The bonus number was 24.
