A gas tank exploded in the kitchen of a five-star hotel in a popular Turkish holiday resort today, killing one person and injuring 10 others, the state Anatolian news agency reported.

The dead person was a hotel kitchen employee.

The injured, who included hotel staff and tourists, were being treated in nearby hospitals, the agency and Turkish television said.

The blast ripped through the hotel kitchen at around 7.30 am (5.30am Irish time) in the resort of Belek in Antalya province, a popular holiday destination especially for German, British and Russian tourists.

No other details were immediately available.
