Ogoni detainees' claims denied

LAGOS - Nigeria's military authorities yesterday dismissed as "mere propaganda" allegations by 19 detainees from the minority Ogoni tribe that they were being held in desperate conditions. In a smuggled letter published in the London Times, the Ogoni activists said they were held in a cramped, vermin infested cell where the only water is contaminated by human remains.
