Town commissioners in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, have called for an investigation into how a road they thought was going to relieve traffic in the town was redesignated as an industrial estate access road.

In a unanimous statement yesterday, the nine commisioners called upon the Minister for the Environment to look to Fingal County Council's handling of the matter, and threatened to seek an injunction against the opening of the access road until the entire "Inner Relief Road" was completed.
