Three English police officers are to face trial for manslaughter on April 8th following the death of an Irishman in police custody four years ago, Scotland Yard said yesterday. Richard O'Brien (37) died after he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in Walworth, south London, in April 1994. He lost consciousness while at a police station and was pronounced dead on arrival at King's College Hospital.

The officers have been removed from operational duties pending the outcome of court proceedings.
