A PSNI officer was hospitalised with head injuries following an attack in Belfast last night.

A PSNI officer was hospitalised with head injuries following an attack in Belfast last night.

A PSNI squad car came under attack by a group of masked men during a routine patrol of the Grange Estate in the Ballyclare area of the city at about 11.30pm.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with head injuries but subsequently discharged.

A short time later, a number of other police vehicles responding to reports of disturbances in the area were also attacked and petrol bombs were thrown at them.

One police car and a number of other vehicles were damaged.

A PSNI spokeswoman said calm has been restored to the area and it is currently being monitored.
