Gardaí are to begin questioning a 30-year-old man today in connection with the discovery of a woman's body at an apartment in Tullamore on Thursday night.

Joselita da Silva (33), a Brazilian mother of three who had been living in Ireland for around three years with her 17-year-old son, was found stabbed to death at about 7pm in an apartment on Tara Street.

Ms da Silva came from the small town of Pires do Rio in central Brazil.

A postmortem examination on the body of da Silva revealed she died from internal trauma as a result of multiple stab wounds to her stomach and chest.

A man who was also in the apartment in which the body of Ms da Silva was found, was released from Tullamore Regional Hospital last night where he had been admitted with superficial wounds to his neck, hand and stomach.

Gardaí are to begin questioning the man this morning.
