Dr Tony O'Reilly believes commercial interests should fund political parties, provided the details were made public. Speaking in Cork yesterday, he disagreed with the Government's present proposal for state funding.

The Heinz chairman and chief executive and chairman of Independent Newspapers said he favoured a system similar to that used in the US, where the amount of contributions is limited and the name and details of all contributors are published.
