THE trial of Mr Brendan Patrick O'Donnell, who is charged with three murders, will resume at the Central Criminal Court today.

The jury is due back in court this morning following the conclusion of separate proceedings in relation to Mr O'Donnell's fitness to plead.

Another jury last Friday unanimously found that Mr O'Donnell was "now competent to proceed with his trial".

Counsel for the prosecution and defence had submitted to the jury that Mr O'Donnell was fit to plead and competent to continue with his defence.

The fitness hearing was ordered by Mr Justice Lavan on the ninth day of Mr O'Donnell's trial on 12 charges relating to events in the west in 1994.
