Bord Gáis chairman Ed O’Connell announced his retirement today after almost eight years in the role.

Bord Gáis chairman Ed O’Connell announced his retirement today after almost eight years in the role.

He will step down after the company’s board meeting on June 30th.

The Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan thanked him for his years of service with the company. The role of chairman is a ministerial appointment.

Mr O’Connell said Bord Gáis had developed into an all-island dual-fuel energy company during his time as chairman. A Bord Gáis spokeswoman said Mr O’Connell was in his "late 60s".
