The Medical Missionaries of Mary, the order of nuns which runs Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, has announced that it has begun formal negotiations to transfer ownership of the hospital to the North Eastern Health Board.

The hospital was established in 1939 and employs 800 people. It is the largest provider of hospital health care in the region.
