Cambridge - A distinguished Roman Catholic nun said last night she was resigning her religious orders because she was being "bullied" by the Vatican over her support for women priests.

Dr Lavinia Byrne (52), who teaches at the Cambridge Theological Federation, said she made her decision after "18 months of pressure".

She dais her decision came after she was asked by senior Vatican figures to support papal policies restricting priestly ordination to men. "I fell bullied", she said.
