Playwright and novelist Sebastian Barry and New York Times opinion columnist Maureen Dowd will be awarded honorary degrees by NUI Galway on June 29th.

Coca Cola Company executive vice-president Irial Finan and Canadian finance minister James Flaherty will also be awarded degrees for their “outstanding and distinctive contribution” in their fields.

Barry has been shortlisted several times for the Man Booker prize and has won the the Costa Book of the Year award.
