Vienna - The new head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said yesterday he saw no signs that Iraq had resumed a nuclear weapons programme during the temporary absence of western inspectors.

"We can now say that we have managed to remove or destroy or render harmless all nuclear items that came to our knowledge," Mr Mohammed El Baradei said a day after taking office.
