RTÉ DIRECTOR-general Cathal Goan is due to mark a bit of history in Connemara today with the relocation of the station’s Nuacht service from Dublin to the State’s largest Gaeltacht.

Three new posts are to be created in the “centralisation” of Irish language news services at TG4 headquarters in Baile na hAbhann, Co Galway.

Some 42 staff, including the familiar face of Nuacht, Siún Nic Gearailt, are involved in the move.

Nuacht chief news editor Michael Lally said: “It is the first time that RTÉ has moved part of its core service out of Dublin.”

Nuacht will retain an office at Donnybrook and the radio service will continue to be broadcast from the radio centre there. TG4’s own evening news broadcast at 7pm would continue to have its own distinct regional as well as national focus, Mr Lally said.
